STUDENT CHARTER

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE INSTITUTION TOWARDS THE STUDENTS:

Government College, Solan (H.P.) shall endeavour to provide to its students:

 Healthy and conducive atmosphere for their personal and collective growth in academic, co-curricular, professional, socio-economic spheres.

 To make them aware of the value and purpose of education as enshrined in the vision and mission of the institution and as per the higher education framework laid down by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi.

 To provide free access to the students to every kind of information pertaining to the college/university statutes, acts, regulations, procedures and curriculum as effected from time to time.

 To inculcate among students values of national and social responsibility, gender equity, cultural and religious tolerance and other humanistic values as enshrined in the Constitution of India and the vision document on higher education of the University Grants Commission.

 To adopt a student-centric approach in teaching-learning methodology and to follow continuous comprehensive assessment system to evaluate student performance to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the students and provide remedial measures as per the requirements of the UGC- Choice Based Credit System adopted by Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla of which the college is an affiliate.

 To develop the competence of the students at different levels, especially with regards to their a) linguistic competence, b) logical and analytical ability, c) scientific temper and d) entrepreneurship development.

 To provide support and guidance to the students through their constant mentoring via tutorials, assignments, class tests, quizzes seminars, remedial courses and career counselling.

 To provide access to state-of-the-art skill-oriented courses to the students to enable them to face the challenges of the future.

 To provide the students with adequate exposure to the ICT based teaching-learning procedures by developing smart classrooms, IT resource centers and digital labs as well as access to online learning recourses.

 To receive constant feedback from students, including the alumni of the college and the parents, for improving and strengthening the infrastructure and activities of the institution and to act upon the same in an emphatic and pragmatic manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE STUDENTS TOWARDS THE INSTITUTION:

All the students of the college are expected to observe the following norms in the larger interest of the institution:

 To understand, appreciate and follow the vision and goals of the institution as enshrined in the college prospectus, the courses of study being offered and the value and purpose of the academic and the co-curricular and extension activities of the college, which are primarily designed for their growth, development and welfare.

 To help the institution in the proper implementation of academic, co-curricular and welfare policies meant for them.

 To possess a clear and adequate knowledge of the various courses of study, admission policy, programme completion requirement requirements, assessment procedure and the bylaws of the college, H.P. University and the Dept. of Higher Education, H.P. and the UGC as framed and implemented from time to time.

 To undertake regular and intense study of their course material through classroom instruction, tutorials, class tests, end-semester exams and other academic modes and methods with the help of their teachers and the college administration.

 To adhere to the norms of the institution with regards to the maintenance of academic atmosphere, general discipline and participation in different activities of the college to enrich the institutional life.

 To abide by the decision of the college administration in case of disputes and grievances, if any, in the general interest of individuals or group of students within the framework of the bylaws of the institution and other academic and governing bodies like the UGC, H.P. University or the higher education department of the state government.

 To make optimum use of the learning resources available in the college and to participate actively in the academically enriching activities organized by the college like symposia, seminars, quizzes, debates, career counseling/training programmes and similar activities.

 To participate in all aspects of Continuous Comprehensive Assessment for the evaluation of their strengths and weaknesses and to avail of remedial measures provided by the college in this regard through tutorials, special assignments and personal counseling.

 To provide honest and unbiased feedback on the quality and usefulness of teachinglearning and other activities undertaken by the institution vis-à-vis the expectations of the students from the institution.

 Not to indulge in acts of ragging, indiscipline, slogan shouting and other disruptive activities or the use of intoxicants inside and outside the college campus.

 To follow moral and constitutional values as rooted in our multidimensional culture and enshrined in the Constitution of India, including respect for diversity of ideas and thoughts, inculcation of an inclusive culture without any preconceived notions of caste, colour, creed, gender and religion.
